Super Nite Finder

I have been receiving a lot of messages from you tube about this gun. Originally it broke after a few uses because I didn't reinforce things(check that out Here). I did repair the gun but never posted the fixed gun. I can't do a full write-up on this gun because for some reason I did not document the mod that well. I was kinda experimenting when I did the mod and really didn't know how it was gonna turn out. This mod was done almost a year ago and it took me a while to just find the gun but I will try to explain what I remember from the build.

Materials used came from Home Depot and cost about $10. Not including the price of a NF or the Nerf Recon light. The wood rod is 3/8" x 36", the pvc tube is 1 inch by 2 feet, metal washer 1/8" x 1" and the rubber washer is 7/16" but I did trim around the rubber washer to fit in the tube.

The Plunger tube is 1" PVC pipe and is about 7" long. I had to cut off the front of the gun (including dart holders) and cut the sides of the gun to fit the pvc in. I am using the original spring stop so thats how far back you cut on the sides. The original catch with a stronger spring was used. I used 2 springs but if you only use 1 you can make the pvc tube shorter.

The hardest part of this mod was making the Recon light fit. It took a lot of dremeling to make it fit correctly. The downside is it can't be removed when the batteries die. So adding the light is up to you but I just wanted something to make the gun look cool.

The cap adapter is for a 1" pvc pipe and I'm not sure what size the reduced threaded end is. My original gun had a different cap with a smaller opening, I had to sand down a 1/2" pvc coupler and hammer it in the tip. But this cap has a larger opening, so I had to wrap the pvc coupler with e-tape and hammer it in. I also put a small foam ring inside the cap to cushion the the plunger head. The cap has D2466 SCH-40 1" on the side.

The original wood rod was 3/8" x 36" from Home Depot but I found these craft rods at Walmart and thought they also would make a good plunger rod. If you want the gun to last longer I would use something stronger but this is all I could find. You will need to cut a notch in the rod just like the one in the original orange pull rod for catch to hook.

To assemble the plunger rod you will need a long wood screw and drill a small hole in the tip of the rod but be very careful not to split the wood. Now take the rubber washer and put it between the metal washers, put the screw threw and attach to the end of the wood rod, the rubber washer may need to be trimmed to fit in the tube correctly.

I hope this helps for those trying to recreate this mod.

  7. I did this mod but with a green Light attachment. That way you can change the batteries and turn the light on and off with your trigger finger.
