HVZ Zombie Fighter 8 Shot Review

This is the official HVZ blaster that I picked up at Toys R Us for $12. It's a 8 shot gun that gets ranges between 25-30 feet(I had a couple luck shots hit 30). One thing I like about the gun is the Nerf size tactical rails on the top and bottom of the gun. It's not a bad looking gun, it's got a cool paint job with a zombie and the official HVZ logo. The size is slightly smaller than a Nerf Maverick and the Air Zone 8 shooter. The handle is kind of small but not too small and the priming handle is easy to grip. Now for the good stuff, how it performs. This gun has some pretty good power but it gets lost in the barrel setup. Instead of typical full barrels it has dart pegs with a hole in the side, and they are not ideal for great ranges. I think adding real barrels will make this gun a real performer.

Some may be turned off because it's a off brand but. Price is fair, size is good and ranges, while they could be better I have seen worse. Overall I think it's a pretty good gun and want to say congrats to the HVZ community for getting a official blaster made. I'm sure the Nerf community will embrace it and come up with some great mods to make it a serious competitor amongst current favorites.

Comes with 8 yellow darts with orange tips. Not sure who makes the gun but it's made in China.

The top of the gun does have a tactical rail.

Bottom of gun, notice the short tactical rail.

The rail on top does fit Nerf accessories.

So does the bottom rail. The Recon light actually won't fit on the bottom rail but other accessories will.

Size compared to a Nerf Maverick.

This gun does resemble the Air Zone 8 shooter but it's slightly smaller.

Internals. There is a spring loaded rubber washer between the plunger tube and turret.

The nice size plunger has almost a perfect seal and the spring is very strong. I think actual barrels would result in some great ranges. I would like to see what Drac could do to this gun:)

Don't forget to check out the official HVZ site for more info.

  1. Wait... this is actually an official HvZ product? Not just a copycat brand that lifted the logos off the HvZ website?

  5. Is it cheaper than a Lanard 8-Shot? Could this be a cheaper Octo-Shot turret replacement?

  7. anyone find it strange or ironic that the blaster was made for HvZ which usually is played by teens with large hands yet this thing has a small handle. what, they expected 7 year olds to be playing HvZ?

  11. Seeing that this blaster is similar to the tek 8, Hvz made a triple shot blaster, and that the Darts look similar, I think that air zone is making these. If they are only at toys r us, then they are definitely air zone. Air zone is a toys r us company.
